Earlier this year, in our Rally Point mid year check in, we mentioned our interest in developing a new PvE event. We wanted to combine a few different mechanics that have not been used together before, and we wanted it to be fun.
To that end, we hoped to give players a first look this year to confirm if we were on the right track, and give time to incorporate feedback into the development process.
So let’s take a look!
The Tournament Grounds Open!
Cheers, merriment, and the clashes of steel ring out across a field blanketed in fluttering tents. Here, anyone can make a name for themselves so long as they have the skill of arms and determination. Let them sing tales of your deeds this day for years to come!
Begin your journey as a tournament hopeful by hunting down strategic terrain tents on the combat map to gather Tournament Favors. Once you curry enough favor with the crowds, head over to the Recipes tab of the event to exchange your favors. There are several enticing reward options available, such as extra march slots and the ability to exchange troops of a higher tier.
However if you want to make it through the Final Bout, you’ll want to exchange for some Tokens of Valor.
Tokens of Valor are required to attack Tournament Veterans on the combat map.
Tournament Veterans are intended to pose a more significant challenge than other enemies, so prepare accordingly before tackling higher levels. These battle tested warriors are Elite Unyielding enemies. Elite means that you must successfully hit them at least 5 times to defeat fully, but Unyielding means that they will regain health if you wait too long between hits (20 seconds.)
Have your marches ready to unleash a quick volley of attacks, or team up with friends to ensure the enemy will be defeated. Tokens of Valor will be consumed for each successful hit, or returned if you are defeated.
You will get rewards for each successful hit, but the final, killing blow awards a significant bonus.
